Mining

The management of raw materials is one of the most important issues within our company because we realise that they are scarce. We have to be constantly alert in order to be able to supply our clients with industrial minerals of the correct quality and specifications in the long term.

Some of our raw materials are mined in the marl, dolomite and huntite quarries that we exploit ourselves. The other raw materials we process are imported from all over the world. The continuity of supplies is guaranteed by long-term contracts. Prior to preparation for shipping to our production sites, the raw materials are carefully checked for purity and content according to application.

Secondary raw materials and recycling

For a considerable time, Sibelco Europe MineralsPlus has focused on looking for substitute raw materials or residues which are suitable for further processing. The quarries which supply our raw materials are not inexhaustible. Mineral-bearing rock is scarce and, furthermore, only a limited amount can be mined. We therefore treat our sources with respect and are constantly carrying out research into alternative raw materials.
